Registering your address in Berlin

Registering your address is one of the first errands after you move. Here is what the city itself says.

What Berlin says

  • You must register within 14 days of moving in, and the registration is free.
  • Online registration needs a BundID account and an ID card or eID card with the online ID function activated, and is open to German and EU citizens. Berlin states it is not possible with an electronic residence permit (eAT).
  • Otherwise you register in person, by appointment. Appointments are free and you can use any of Berlin’s more than 60 Bürgerämter, whichever district you live in.
  • Bring a valid passport or ID (with your residence permit card where you have one) and the landlord’s confirmation. A rental contract does not replace the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung.
